JAA PPL Exams
I am looking at going to Greece to do my PPL training around july 2008 time. I was wondering whether it is valid to do the CAA JAA PPL exams before I go to Greece? This would make the course more withstandable. I have emailed the company and have not got a reply. Im not sure whether I have to do the Hellenic CAA JAA PPL exams in Greece if I plan to train in Greece. Im sure the answer is straight forward. Thank you.

As far as I know there is no flight school in Greece operating under the auspicies of the CAA. So you'll be training to the Greek syllabus, which in turn will be derived from the JAA syllabus. But all your exams will be based on the Greek interpretation of JAR-FCL, and on Greek law. Thus, I think having the CAA exams done (although probably good practice) won't be worth anything over there.
I might be wrong though. Maybe there is a CAA examiner available over there, or is there some sort of agreement to accept the CAA theory exams as substitute for the Greek theory exams. But it is something that I personally would want to confirm from official sources, not from some bloke on a Pilots RUMOUR network...

See LASORS A8:
*The UK CAA does not recognise JAR-FCL PPL(A)/ (H)
examinations completed in another JAA Member State
for the purpose of issuance of a UK JAR-FCL PPL(A)/
(H) as these examinations are produced “nationally”
and are not compiled using the JAA Central Question
Bank.
I would expect the same thing to apply for an Hellenic PPL(A).
