Please comment those headsets...

Hello!

I'm currently a private pilot and I have taken the decision to buy my own headset in the near future. I wouldn't want to go above the 250EUR mark for now so I've come across a few products which meet my criterias. One would be the Peltor 8006 (white) headset which I have personally used a few times and I don't have any complaints about it. The other is the Sennheiser HME95. Which one would you personally suggest and maybe you can give me some other alternatives within that price range to consider? I also saw some ASA and other headsets which cost like 120 EUR but I am not sure if that would be the best way to go.

Peltor headsets

Hi,

I used a Peltor headset for 21 years, ever since they first came out and found it very good. I went to buy a new one after about 15 years and came away with 2 new cups instead for about 15 euros. It seems compatible with David Clarks etc.

I've just treated myself to a new David Clark Active Noise Reduction headset which is lighter and less of a clamp on the head than the old DCs, but it's way outside the budget you mention.

I've no experience of the headsets you mention, but wanted to comment on that quote.

If you intend to buy a more expensive headset later, than my advice would be to wait until you can afford the more expensive set. Not much point buying one now, and another later......get the best you can afford...if that means waiting 12 months, then so be it. Use the school ones until then.

Thanks for the info. Ofcourse buying a very good headset is a smart thing to do. However, I do not fly so often that the comfort level of the headset might become of vital importance for me right now and I need to get the headset right now because here the club only has one headset to provide at the airport which is also an old and sluggish one. In another company where I can fly, they charge a rental fee for a headset So I can't delay anymore...

Take a look on ebay as there are lots selling there and you will probably get more for your money. Personally I like David Clarks as they seem to be very well made. I have never had anything fail or break in 20 years with various DCs. You can also still get parts for all of them.

I have been using Peltor 8006s and they are very good.

One general suggestion I would make is that since you will inevitably be carrying passengers who will need to use headsets too, try to use the same type for them too. This avoids any issues of incompatibility (rare but it does happen).

C&B and The Odd One, I agree. They are light (compared with DCs), comfortable and fold into a small space. I have had to use DCs on the odd occasion and find them very uncomfortable, heavy and unwieldy and they don't deaden as much external noise as the Peltor ones. They also tend to keep slipping off my head which can be dangerous if it happens at the wrong time. When I can afford to buy myself some (these are on long term loan from a friend) I shall be buying Peltor.

I really appreciate your feedback on this. I've been looking for some David Clarks on Ebay but it doesn't seem like a very big possibility to get something good from there. I guess the Peltor might be a good choice for the beginning and as already said, I can certainly buy something new later on and use the other one for passengers.

If anyone still has some new tips for me, please let me hear them! Thanks!
