So for what it's worth - and just starting my second year -
Or have I got it wrong? Flak jacket on!
- My successful GST for PPL(A) SEP was logged as PI/S
- Club requirement for a 28 day currency check flight is logged as P1 because I am stating "I am in control", and/or the instructor sitting alongside me is stating "this is your flight you are in command"
- All other flying done since receipt of my license is logged as P1 except;
- Club requirement for a 6 month dual check which is logged as P/UT because I am effectively demonstrating my capability to carry out all I have learnt and also because the instructor is 'instructing' me when I don't get it quite right

Does you club really insist on 28 currency and a 6-monthly check?
Sounds way OTT to me. We use 42 day currency - if out of currency then a quick 3 circuits with an FI (which you would log as P U/T) - plus an annual club check which doesn't always need to be 1 hr unless the member requests it for Rating revalidation.
I'd find another club, if I were you!
By the way, the 12 hour requirement applies to the second 12-month period of the 2 year Rating validity period.

The whole point of P1S is that it is PIC but under supervision. If it didn't count as PIC there would be no point logging it as such. If that accounts for the odd check out there is no problem but if you need to claim numerous hours of P1S in the same 12 month period it poses the obvious question WHY? If you have to keep being checked out, then was the previous flight really P1S? (which implies a satisfactory check out as PIC.)
In a 12 hour flying experience requirement, 6 in command is a realistic level of experience, if one of those is P1S its probably not unreasonable but if more than 2 of the 6 hours are claimed as P1S then it would appear that this pilot really did not exercise the judgment necessary to revalidate by experience.
No its not written in law why should it be? Its a case of being reasonable in meeting the requirement. The assumption being that a person who regularly exercises the privileges of a pilot licence (which is to act as PIC) probably doesn't need to do a test.
