Name changes confuse me.

When "Imperial" became a dirty word, ICI changed its name to "ICI" - just the letters.
There's been a trend ever since for large plcs to switch to "letters-only" names. In some cases, the original names would be meaningless now, because of the gradual changes in direction of the companies, but no name changes have been needed.

So why not change "Popular Flying Association" to "PFA" and leave it at that? No more name changes needed, ever.

[Not that I'm a member any more. I got a very strange letter from the Chairman (or President or whatever he was) a few years ago. I don't know what was going on, but I didn't like it and voted with my wallet.]
