JAR PPL(A) renewal procedures

Hello,

My JAR-UK PPL(A) is due to expire this year (I have the new 5 year licence). What CAA forms/steps do i need to take to renew my licence and type rating before it expires?

My licence/ratings expire as below:

JAR PPL(A) - 08-OCT-2007
SEP (Land) - 05-SEP-2007
Class 1 Med - 26-JUN-2008

For my SEP, I have completed the minimum 12 hours in the last 12 months which includes 1 hour P/UT with an instructor and more than 6 hours P1.

Give the CAA a bell and ask.. Off the top of my head I believe the license renewal is simply send the CAA a cheque. You must have a valid medical and class rating at the time of renewal.

Either way, LASORS will know... http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/LASORS.PDF

Shunter, no - do NOT advise people to ring the CAA!

This is very basic stuff - the CAA will, quite rightly, tell you to "READ LASORS!!"

cptcollins, first revalidate the SEP Class Rating. Download http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/FORSRG1119.PDF and get your local Flight Examiner to sign it off any time after today and also to sign your licence Certificate of Revalidation page. Then send the form to the CAA. This should cost you nothing except the cost of the stamp on the envelope!

Then download http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/FORSRG1102.PDF and http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/FORSRG1187.pdf . One is the form you will need to send off before your licence expires in October to support your application for licence re-issue. About 4 weeks beforehand should do - you will need to sign to say that you have a valid SEP Class Rating and to send them a copy of your medical form as their IT still isn't good enough to keep proper records automatically... The other form is the method of payment form - a re-issued PPL will cost you £65.

Hey BEagle

Thanks for the info. I looked at LASORS and it says i can only apply for a licence re-issue 60 days prior to it expirering. I'll be away in NZ training in August so may find it difficult to renew from abroad but i can definately do the SEP bit here. I'll nip down to the airport and have a word with the CFI.

Thanks Again

Why the fkn hell not? A colleague at work did exactly that not more than a week ago when renewing his. He said they couldn't be more helpful!

Because the CAA produce LASORS so that people can find out for themselves. They are very busy and do NOT need their time wasted by people who cannot be bothered to find things out for themselves.

If it's a difficult query, then by all means phone the CAA. But NOT for a mere SEP Class Rating revalidation and PPL(A) re-issue.

cptcollins, I'm sure that there is a postal service between NZ and UK. But in your particular circumstances, it might well be reasonable to ask the CAA if you may apply for re-issue early.
