Airfields

Is landing/takeoff on abandoned (closed) airfields prohibited? If they are, is it also prohibited in the event of an emergency?

Abandoned airfields

I believe I am right in saying that in normal circumstances, you must have the permission of the owner
of the fiield. In an emergency anything goes!

I wonder how many people have emergency landed on a golf course ?
probably better than a disused airfield , which could have chains across it

As long as you ahve PPR you can land on abandonded airfields. I do it all the time.

For fun you should try Wigtown. You would not know it is an airfied unless someone told you.

Often fly over Ockham (ex Bae Wisley) but was actually there a couple of weeks ago as the old runway was the park and ride for the Brooklands centenary event.

Was surprised to see two lengths of Armco barrier across the runway part way down making a sort of goat pen. It wouldn't be funny to hit one of them.

Lesson - always make sure you have a protected area to land on before you try it .... or it could end in tears ... an your insurer mightn't be too happy.
