How many pax can I carry?
Firstly does anyone know of an online Aviation Law resource? can you access CAP through the net?
Secondly, How many passengers can i legally carry? It's been awhile since I did airlaw. From my memory everyone needs a seat with a seatbelt. But the confusion comes with 'infants' and 'babies'. How young do they have to be to be held in a passengers arms? Do they need a child's additional safety belt?
E.G. In a 7 seat aircraft can i carry 7 pax with 7 babies? adhereing to the weight and balance obviously. Does the situation change when considering 'infants' not babies?

hi grum,
can't say about your CAP as i'm in JAA land...but out legislation was very close to yours before the change and it used to say...must be a seat for every person over the age of 3...
i'm sure others will correct if your situation now is different.

Ah right.. Well the Pooleys book doesn't shed very much light on that apart from the fact the pilot in command must have made at least three takeoffs and landings to carry passengers. All i can suggest is do some internet digging.

I am not aware of a passenger limit on a UK issued JAA PPL. Maybe there is one... I doubt it though ... one can do para dropping on a PPL for example. It takes care of itself anyway via the weight limit which I believe is 5700kg.
Getting any money off the passengers is where the problems start. There is a limit of four on the number of cost-shareable seats under the PPL Cost Sharing Scheme. I don't recall whether this prohibits any cost sharing at all if flying a 6-seater, or whether a 6-seater carrying up to 3 passengers is OK. But cost sharing is a different Q to that originally asked.

Thanks for the input. I did reserve a seat for myself but couldnt rotate for the baby on my lap. 
Appologies, this is a questiion concerning JAR not CAP really. This was a Private flight but we also operate commercially. The ops manual simply says 7 passengers. No mention of infants etc. Got a boss who likes to keep stating what can or can't be done. These assurances rarely turn out to be correct but they are always made at the last minute. I guess i should get a copy of the JAR's.
The statement of those younger than 3 can sit on a lap seems correct. I^ll go with that till i find what i'm looking for.

Iīm not sure if this is relevant and it is to do with masses rather than maximum people carried but JAR OPS 1,607 defines:-
Adults as being anyone of 12 years or more
Childrens as being from 2 until 11
Babies as being under 2 years of age.
What I havenīt found is whether children can be carried on laps, or indeed adults, or if passengers can be carried on floors, after too many free beverages presumably.

I'm under the impression that post JAA the 5700Kg weight limit had been removed from the PPL, at least for SEPs.

Apart from aviation law and the POH, you will also need to check with your insurers to see what they will allow.
Our PA28 is insured for the carriage of the pilot and 3 passengers and it clearly states in the policy a maximum of four people. However when I phoned them up last year for clarification on the carriage of children they informed me that it would be OK to carry 3 adults including the pilot and two children, one of which would be sitting on a passengers lap.
This is only allowed as long as the aircraft is flown within the flight envelope i.e. not overweight and within the weight and balance schedule.

Passengers and Infants
OK.
My understanding of it is that infants (< 2 yrs) do not count towards the
passenger count provided they do not occupy a seat.
However, your insurance may limit. Most private policies only insure you for the no. of PAX for whom you have seats.
Note that insurance is also mandatory now we are in the EU.
So, check with your insurance,
