Help: Hotels/chateaux near airfields in France?

Due to some poor planning on my part, I have left it too late to be able to book a room at Chateau la Chassagne for the end of this month.

Can anyone recommend a hotel/chateau in France to which one can fly which would be suitable for a wedding anniversary-type celebration?

One possibility is Chateau la Berchere in Nuit St Georges. Any experiences?

Any other chateau or hotel in an interesting part of France with some things to do in the local area and a runway length of around 700m suitable for twin close by would be best.

I hope the 'bon-viveurs' who frequent these pages will be able to come up with something suitable.

If responses are in danger of being seen as advertising, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not at all sure I fit that description, but nevertheless...

Domaine de l'Etape - near the town of le Blanc which has an 800m airfield. No customs & PPR.

Chateau d'Audrieu - a couple of miles from Caen airport (ILS, Cust O/R).

Manour de Lan-Kerellec - a couple of miles west of Lannion airfield (Cust O/R).

Jean Bardet - Chateau Belmont - near Tours/Val de Loire airport (ILS, Cust).

Le Cote Saint-Jacques - about 2km from Joigny airfield (No customs). Hotel with a restaurant gourmand to the south-east of Paris. Three Michelin stars last time I looked.

Thank you for the input. I've settled on Nuit St Georges and Chateau de la Berchere.

Anyone got any advice on good contacts for obtaining permission to land at Nuit St Georges? My calls to the number in the French AIP have gone unanswered.

Thanks for your help; just back from the trip.

It was somewhat difficult to get a response from the guy at Dijon who gives permission to land at NSG, but I managed it the day before departure..

Bit of a slow trip down to Troyes at FL80 with a 30kt Headwind. Troyes (LFQB) much recommended: Tarmac runway and fuel, and 6 Euro to land a twin! Thence 45 mins to LFGZ, with an interesting approach into the side of a hill before turning base leg for runway 11.

Chateau de la Berchere www.hotelchateauberchere.com much recommended: peaceful setting with the airstrip 100m away (very little activity due to very small, sleepy club) No landing or parking fee. Superb rooms in XVII century chateau, swimming pool and sauna. Great breakfast but no restaurant, however lots of bistro/restaurants in easy reach. Car loan or cheap car hire available, and lots of vineyards close by to visit (Nuits St Georges, Gevrey Chambertin, Cotes de Beaune etc). Beaune itself very attractive town, with lots of bars and wine shops and expensive couture...

Return trip VFR to Deauville in 90 mins with uninterrupted service from Seine then Paris Info, then across the Channel home. Just over 6hrs total flying in a twin.

For a slightly less important date, or just a nice weekend break, try Hotel Mercure a mile from Chalon, i ca n never remeber its full name, however it is the one not far from Lons, just a bit north of Dijon. It has a pool great restaurant and the local area has lots of interesting distractions for the PAX!

I've just been looking up some of the places mentioned here since I'm off to fly around France next week.

I've plotted them on Google Maps here for those who are interested. A short version of the URL is http://tinyurl.com/2nytsr

Once the map is displayed you can right-click on the blue place markers to get further details including the hotels' web sites.

In the same area (East Bordeaux): Ferme du Rebeyrotte (restaurant and rooms). Not a chateau but a farm: very popular, booking essential on weekend days. Private airstrip.

Montmeilleur is a fabulous destination, but it's a one-way strip. It is most definitely not somewhere to go unless you are entirely happy about landing in 500m, usually with a tailwind, and with no chance of going around. And the density altitude is often well over 5000ft in summer.

If you want an unforgettable experience, try the Chateau de Bagnols. The accommodation is superb, the restaurant has a Michelin star, the building, contents and gardens are all stunning, and it is about 3 minutes from Villefranche Tarare airfield (LFHV), about 20 miles NW of Lyon. Not cheap, but worth it.

Thanks werewolf and Adrian - I have updated the map.

Some lovely places there - I rather like the idea of landing amongst the topiary at Les Jardins d'Eyrignac!
