Schneider This Weekend.

Oi oi Chaps,

Please be advised that upwards of 50 highly competetive pieces of tin will be propelling themselves around the solent at various times around the weekend.

The 75th Anniversary of the Schneider will be flown on the Sunday at 1330 local.

Other details of weekend can be found here..

http://airraceuk.org/blogs/2006_seas...8/16/1718.aspx

I believe you are able to fly in to watch this event but please call Bembridge on 01983 873331 to obtain any information as the airfield will be unavailable to visitors during race periods.

You will find me in the bar as i don't have a kite to race.... bah humbug...

Have a good safe weekend all.....

Fantastic PFL for real what a fantastic display of skill and courage.

The race was very bumpy due to the strong wind but what a fantastic race it was, eat your heart out Red Bullers !!!!!!!

Something from the weekend

Glad Ivan was OK. I was at the turning point on Osbourne House Beach. With 47 aircraft streaming past, it was very difficult keeping track of everyone, but fortunately there were no cuts. A few pics from the weekend.

Friday sunset

Saturday practice in the rain. G-TSKY flown by Roger Hayes came second in the Schneider Trophy race on Sunday

Low cloud over the monument

Some of the 'heavy metal'

The eventual winner - Martin Kellett in the Rallye G-BFAK

Pilots' photocall on Sunday morning. Dawn-Marie Taylor in the fetching pink outfit and Amanda Harrison in period costume and pearls! The bald headed man standing in front of the tailplane is Gabriel Gomila-Frau who flew his Jodel EC-AUQ from Majorca to take part

The briefing says Go!

The sun comes out on the Cirrus ...

... and so does the Rapide, which was due to race, but wisely pulled out

An amazing weekend. My uncle was a spectator at the 1931 race, and went on to work at Supermarine in Southampton. So being a part of this race, even if in a ground capacity, was something special for me. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen.
