A sad day for the Spifire, Lancaster et al

On Sky News earlier:
The future of model-maker Airfix is in doubt after its parent company went into administration.
The plastic kits of Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancaster bombers, which enjoyed their heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, have fascinated children for almost 60 years.
But, last night, 31 staff out of 41 were made redundant at its parent firm Humbrol after it went into administration due to "severe cash flow pressures" and also a disruption in supplies from its principal manufacturer in France.
The rest here:

Is nothing sacred?

That's terrible! I hope they find a buyer otherwise finding spares for my 1:72 scale Tiger Moth (currently in progress) will be almost impossible.

According to the papers, the Frog company Heller, which owns the tools and moulds for the models has refused to sell it to Humbrol. Bloody frogs!

Makes me glad that I "laid down" a complete set of 1/24th scale WW2 Airfix aircraft for a rainy day / retirement! Currently sitting at the back of a wardrobe (the kits, not me...).

I am working just a mile from the humbrol factory, and if they go bust they have a great looking full size hunter on a plinth outside the factory. Wonder how much that would go for at the Official Recievers auction "i'll start the bidding at £500-"

Airfix.

Apparently the Hornby company (of "00" fame) are showing interest.
Hope so.

Airfix and Hornby Dublo! That'd be a great combination.

I can smell the hot electrics of the 'Bristol Castle' (3 rail, of course!) almost as clearly as the old Britfix polystyrene cement and Humbrol enamel of boyhood times.
