PPL exams
I plan to do my PPL in Florida next summer but I was wondering if it was possible to take the theory exams before I go. Is this possible?
If so where can I do this (around London?), and how long do I have to complete my training after I pass the exams?

All JAR-FCL PPL(A) exams have to be completed within an 18 month window and, for licence issue, are valid for 24 months from the date of passing the last exam.
We charge our club members nothing for the first attempt at any exam, but reserve a right to charge for a second attempt. We require anyone who fails twice to attend a specialist groundschool before they are allowed to have a 3rd attempt.
But for people who do not intend to do their flying training with us, we charge an initial membership fee (£40) plus the CAA's going rate for exams (£44 each)... Directed study or groundschool are not included in that price.

It would help if you told us whether you intended obtaining a JAA PPL or an FAA PPL.
If it is the FAA one, you should be able to take your exams at Flight Training Inc at Farnborough (I know you can do the CPL ones there). If you want groundschool training for FAA PPL, I think Linda True may do it, (I know she does IR). She sometimes advertises in the small ads in the flying mags. I think she calls her company True Airspeed: do a search on this website and I'm sure you'll find her. You can get a fair amount of FAA study material at Transair.
If you are looking at JAA PPL, I believe Derek Davis at Bournemouth (among others) does PPL groundschool on a residential basis, one subject per day (hard work but a quick way to do it). Derek regularly advertises in small ads in the flying mags.

Get yourself a copy of the "PPL confuser" well worth every penny. Helps to cut down the amount of time you need to spend studying and helps to get you focused in on the important topics you will be tested on.
I ended up sitting each of my exams on a rolling basis every 2 weeks. Did all the exams except navigation before I even had my first flight lesson. I found it helped me a lot.
