FAA Class 1 medical cost?
Just wandering how much the FAA medical Class 1 is in the usa as i need to save as much money as possible at least for the ppl, i should be getting a loan for everything else but that is later in the year and i want to get my ppl soon as i keep putting it off. I did my last 4 hours back in 1998 so that shows that i am reallly wanting to get my ppl done before i get too old.

The medical cost depends on the Doctor you go through. They are allowed to set their own price. It also depends if you are over 40 (need EKG) as that costs more. I pay 85.00 USD for mine, no EKG. Above 150.00 USD would be high.

I think i'd prefer the FAA class1 if it's that cheap, so that was for the CPL medical wasn't it? I love america for the decent prices

A330...,
The initial CAA JAA class 1 costs well under GBP100, the renewal is cheaper than the FAA class 1. - I think you may be thinking of the UK CAA?
Well, there are cheaper CAAs around...
Seggy is right, USD85 is the going price for the FAA class 1.
cheers, IP

A330ismylittlebaby,
I wouldn't bother getting an FAA Class 1 if you haven't got a PPL. A Class 2 / 3 should be enough for the time being. (2 is for CPL, 3 is for PPL, 1 is for ATP)...
Cheers

Yep Englishgal, 125 Euros for the initial, 55 Euros for the renewal, that is if you go without an appointment, I have heard it's cheaper if you have an appointment, but cannot confirm this. Waiting time for me has never been more than 2 hours without appointment.
If you'd read my reply in full, you would have seen that I was referring not to the UK CAA.
But A330... was asking about the FAA class 1, which is EUR70 here, same in the US. As they are all over the US, you may do it the day you go there. Usually the Flight School will take you there. Real quick.
As Englishgal correctly says, the class 1 is not needed for the FAA PPL, but some CAAs here only do a renewal for their Class 1, if you have an FAA class 1 and a licence with it...
cheers, IP

Only need a Class-3
You only need a class 3 for PPL. I paid $75 1 month ago. BTW if you are under 40, FAA has a started the notice of proposed rulemaking to increase the duration from 3 to 5 years for 3rd class.....

Hey FD, the last time I had a Class 2 FAA, the AME said that for the class 1 I wouldn't need an ECG....? Why is this?
