Rolls Royce
Dear all
I once again come to you seeking your advice....
I have seen a 1973 Robin HR100/210 fitted with a Rolls Royce engine. As a group we are thinking about purchasing the aircraft. I have never seen a robin fitted with a RR engine.
Does anyone have a view regarding the 210hp RR engine. Are they expensive to maintain... good performers etc...
Any advice would be appreciated...
yours ZZ..

I have the same engine in my Reims Rocket fitted with a VP prop. Goes like stink, 130kts at 8.5gph. Fuel injected version in mine.
They are a swine to work on as everything was over engineered. Also check the starter assembly closely, they use a 90degree adaptor on the back of the engine with a friction spring assembly. When this goes it looks like you are trying to start with a flat battery when in fact the starter is at fault. Mine just cost a fortune to fix.
Watch out for the TBO, some were 1500, some 1800 and others 2000 TBO.
You will find that the 210bhp is only available for "x" minutes and that the max continous is 195bhp. Gets you out of tight strips though!
Otherwise a very smooth and powerfull engine.
