GFT - Minimum Age

Hi

I'm just about done with the training for my PPL. Did my QXC yesterday. I'm 17 in a few months and want to get my licence ASAP. Is it possible to take your General Flight test before you're 17, and then recieve your licence from the CAA on or just after you birthday?

Any help would be great.

Regards
Graham W

I think you can start training (official training, logged flight times) at 14 and go solo (or get the PPL) at 16.

This is a UK JAA PPL.

I know for a fact that you can't get the actual licence till you're 17. I'm just not sure if you can take the actual flight test before then!

Thanks for your reply anyway!

Cue theKentishFledgling, who did his GFT some time before his 17th birthday, and picked up his PPL on the day he was 17.

In a word, yes.

Solo on or after 16th, GFT anytime after that, but no licence until you're 17. This means no carriage of passengers and no international flight.

Always worth a letter to the CAA asking if you can pick your licence up on your 17th, as I did. For this they required all the paperwork a few weeks in advance, basically meaning I had to pass the GFT a month or so before my 17th.

Good luck - do let us know how you get on.

Edit to add: can't believe I've had my licence nearly two years...meaning solo is nearly 3 years ago

Further to this, I did my GFT in October with by 17th in December; paperwork sent off in advance and licence arrived on first working day after my 17th...
