Lemans 24hr

Hi,
I'm planning a trip to the Lemans 24hr this year.
I've got my tickets and aero maps etc, but there is a mention of there being slots allocated by notam for the race weekend. (see link)

http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthr...t=lemans+notam

Just wonderered if anyone knows about how to book a slot? I've checked the sia aviation website and can't find a relevant notam under the airport code (LFRM). Does anyone have any further info? i'm just a bit concerned as its only a bit over a month away now...

cheers

From (very fallible) memory I think you need to phone the airfield to book the slot. I have this feeling that if you're arriving VFR then there's a bit more leeway about the slot time, but its several years since I last went to the 24hr race so things have probably changed a bit. If you're arrving on the Friday things might be a bit easier as well - there tends to be a lot of traffic on the Saturday and Sunday.

I suspect the the NOTAMs aren't 'attached' to the airfield, but are issued as a general one covering the race, as they deal with temporary CAS and IFR procedures as well. If you can't find anything on the SIA website you can always try gving AIS at Heathrow a call they sould have copies, or be able to point you in the right direction.

Quite a good thread here but still doesn't resolve where the slot comes from.
As I weakly recall, it is in the AIC, which doesn't appear to have been issued yet.

You need to phone or fax the airfield for a slot time.

When are you hoping to go? I am Prob 50 at the moment for a late friday arrival.

I spoke to one of the chaps at at ATC and was told I need to fax my request through, which I've done, but I'm awaiting a reply...

Hoping to arrive on the Friday - say midday and return Sun evening

Anyone know what the overnight parking is for SEP?

Last time I went, which was many years ago, it cost about £70 - they rip you off, because they can.

Had a successful week at Le Mans!

Stayed at a chateau near 'Champigne' - choppered team personnel in throughout the week and brought back a knackered boss and wife today - back to sunny Yorkshire - having won the GT2 race!!!!!!!!!

Would anyone care to disclose how much the trip cost them (in terms of flying/landing fees etc) in total and in what aircraft? I only ask since my father has enquired whether I would fly him and his chums next year. Mind you, he went on about French motorways so much he might prefer to drive again!

Cheers

Well for landing fees and parking you're looking at 76euro for a SEP friday-sunday.
Aircraft hire, well I suppose it depends on what you take. I went in a group C182 which took about 1h 45 each leg and these cruise at about 135knots. If renting I wouldn't expect any change from £500 to be honest.
Its a good trip, I flew VFR and was very lucky with the weather. We did a relatively long channel crossing, but if you're not comfortable doing that expect a longer flight time.
If flying I would say its best to camp at the airport, then you don't have to lug all you're gear about. The disadvantage of couse is that you need to walk 20mins or so to the track every day and you are limited as to what you can take.
On the plus side its great when the race has finished. I was home having dinner within 2 hours.
Here we are on the climbout from Lemans
