Link to threads of ongoing importance

HERE IS THE INDEX SO FAR

IMCR OPERATING RESTRICTIONS

Can you fly a G reg on a FAA license?

SVFR - when and why?

THE BEST GPS. THE USE (AND ABUSE) OF GPS

L2K - The first trip abroad for some many

There are occasions there are threads on here that importantly clarrify a particular issue or are of re-occuring significance.

Whilst I appreciate there is the search function, you do of course have to know what you are searching for.

I think it would be very useful to have a new private flying forum to which a thread that falls into this category could be transferred.

A good example has been the discussion about IMCR minima. How often over the last few years has this topic come up? Here in one thread views have been expressed and I believe (with some trepidation) a conclusion reached. Reading a thread such as this would be of ongoing interest to all pilots.

Far simpler to use this thread to identify important topics which can be collated and contained in a sticky by BRL.

Yes - I agree.

Could BRL turn this into a sticky or create a new one please?

The title could be "Link to threads of ongoing importance".

I think there should be an initial post along the following lines.

Links to other threads should only be added to this sticky where it is considered the subject matter is of ongoing interest to private pilots and deals with the clarrification of the rules by which we operate.

Perhaps BRL could "control" on request which links are added, or it can be left to forum contributors to decide that the thread meets the above criteria.

I would like to kick off by adding the first post:

"IMCR OPERATING RESTRICTIONS

This thread deals with the operating differences between the IMCR and IR - including approach minima, the restriction from using class A, and the departure minima. The thread also deals with some aspects of the cross registration limitations of the IMCR and IR (between N and G reg).

Thumbs up

This kind of thing was suggested a while ago and agreed on. It would work well with the input from you guys, the readers here who contribute to this forum. Post here your links to threads that you think are worthy of inclusion, as per the one above.

At the moment, I can't do anything about it until next weekend when I get a few days off and have a few hours to fiddle about here, hence the call for your own suggestions/links. Until then, add your own and include an explaination why you have put the link to a specific thread in here and we will see how it works out.

Cheers.

Fuji, many thanks for you help here. I am still a bit busy at the moment and will chase some links up pretty soon. Thanks again.

Meanwhile, if any of you can think of a thread that is worthy of a link here then please feel free to post that link. Thanks.

GPS seems to be a recurring topic, either as in which one to buy (though more input needed):

or the use of:

The topic does raise a few hackles but there's nothing wrong with a bit of spirited discussion!

L2K

It comes up time and again - the first trip to France for most, and we still all enjoy L2K.
