Medical Renewal Question

My JAA Class Two medical expires on 18 May 2006, and this will be the first time that I have had to renew it.

Will my two year period (I'm not over 30) on my new medical, run from the date I do the medical examination or from 18 May when the old one expires?

Assuming it's the 18 May, I'll put it off until late Apr. (I'm not expecting any problems with it.)

Your current medical will expire on the last day of the month in which it was issued (31 May), if you renew it in April it will expire 12 or 24 months hence at the end of April of that year.

I suggest that you renew it in May if you can.

The answer is that you can do your medical up to 45 days before the current one expires. If you do that the new medical will run from the expiry date of the current one.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be putting it off for another month or two.

I've just checked my Class One Medical Certificate, the class two and three status doesn't apply to ATCOs, only Balloon CPL & then FISO/various categories of pilots.

I was assuming that all medical certificates would have the same currency status, but as ever with the CAA/JAR, nothing in life could possibly be that simple.
