Flying jackets - mid-price?
I have a cheap (£30) nylon insulated flying jacket (Transair, I think) which is fine, but getting a bit tatty and it's also flammable - not a good move. But I'm not sure I want either the expense or the look of a £250-plus leather one.
Is there anything in between, i.e. somewhere from £50-£150, fire-proof, warm?

In fact, on a little surfing, it appears that one option is Sporty's - the exact same jackets that cost £250 here are $200 there - about half price...
Thanks, all, and I will investigate.

But so worth it. I had one made to measure just over a year ago and it's toasty. I wore it a couple of times in the microlight & currently use it a lot in my MG. The fit is, obviously, excellent, meaning that my movement is hardly restricted. Can't beat it!

Excellent idea to get rid of the nylon jacket - they are a safety hazard. In the event of being exposed to flame, the material melts, may even catch fire and will stick to your skin and burn right into it. What might have been a minor "singe" becomes a much more severe injury. I've seen this happen.
After said accident, I now have a 100% Aramid fibre (Nomex) cold weather flyers jacket, made by Alpha Industries Inc. It's similar to the combat jacket mentioned earlier.
Nylon really shouldn't be used for ANY clothing to do with aircraft or anywhere there is an increased risk of flame. I wish companies like Transair would stop selling it for the purpose.

Someone else trying to sell nylon jackets for aviation use!
Don't buy one if you value your personal safety.
