Safe removal of paint from panels!

This is a great forum and I hope some one out there can shed some light on my quest. I have been searching for info on what can be used to remove paint from an aluminium panel! It has a solid rivetted piece on it and I remember reading some where that certain paint strippers can have a very bad effect on solid rivets. Does anyone know what to use for the best/ safest effect?
