LED Strobes

Does anyone know of a kit, or what is required, to make a strobe light using LED's?

Maplin catalogue and soldering iron at the ready…

Thanks.

Although modern LEDs have quite good power ratings, I seriously doubt you would get anywhere enough light for them to be visible during daylight. Even capacitor discharge strobes struggle in daylight and they deliver some serious output with very high voltage spikes.

LEDs would make very good navigation lights (RWG) and are more reliable than regular light bulbs.

I've seen single stroble units that consume only 500mA (averaged), so I'm not sure LEDs would offer any advantage over this unit, other than lamp life.

How long do regular strobes last?
