Transair/Oxford PPL CBT
Are these discs worth the £349 price for everything? I am just about to start my PPL training (have some flight experience) and I came across these. Would they be better than the Thom books?

I can only speak for myself but I decided to buy them from a PPL at my club who had used them. They are boxed and in mint condition and I ended up paying £300 for them and that also included the CRP-1 computer disc, which you can do unlimited questions on (very helpful).
I found them easier to follow with the visual and audio content. I did all the test questions and then went on to the confuser, which I found pretty straightforward after that. They don't seem to be as comprehensive as the Thom books, but they seem to give you more than enough info than you need for the confuser.
I got 100% for 2 exams and in the 90's for the others (apart from Nav, which I got a miserable 84% for). I'm no academic, so going by pass marks, the discs certainly seem to do the job.
I'm sitting my last exam on Friday, so I guess I'll be looking to sell the disc set on after that. PM me if you're interested.

I went out to Transair Victoria shop and purcahsed the set of 6 disks, plus the VFR RT COMMS, UK SUPPLEMENT RT COMMS and the NAVIGATION COMPUTER CD-ROMS.
I actually find the Trevor Thom books better if you are intending to pass the exams. I used the 6 CD's and only found the Human Performance & Limitations to actaully be in enough depth. I ended up failing my Air Law exam even after knowing everything the CD had to offer.
On the up side, it does keep your concentration more with all the visuals, but I do wish they used a woman on the CD's, as at times the mans flat voice can put you to sleep.
The Nav and RT comms are however very good in my opinion. They helped me a lot and still do. If there something your not sure about you can always easily go back to it with the easy to use menu layout.
Hope that gives you some more insight, however I do think the American Version made by the Cessna owned flying schools is better (but they dont have a JAA version as far as I can see). Hopefully Oxford will come out with something that good with all their brains in the area with their next CBT course.
