Ratings in another Aircraft.

having recently passed my skills test. i would like to experience and have the skill in handling a larger low wing aircraft. been train in a cessna 152.

what does it requrie to get a rating in another plane??
say a 172 ( very similar rite? an hour of coversion?)
a worrior?

In this case I think a better term is "checkout" rather than "rating".

You answered your question - all that's required is a checkout of usually an hour.

yes a check out is what i meant.

so any type, just to familarise with an instructor right?

and tail dragger?? i assume that would take longer...?? and retractable landing gear? pressurisation systems??

Taildragger requires a sign off that you have had sufficient training endorsed by a suitable instructor in your log book, as do retractable, VP prop and turbo.

Pressurised aircraft, under JAA/CAA rules anyway, are normally types which need a specific type rating.

My experience is that you will get 2 types of advice/offerings for these checkouts. One group will provide a "course" for x number of hours. Another group will say that it takes how long it takes. My advice is to go for the latter type of provider.

I'm sure others on the forum can provide some actuals for you.

I only have:

taildragger - took me 7 hours
IMC rating took me 15 hours which is (I think) pretty much the official minimum).
