Cart before the horse?
Flight instructors and friends – not forgetting logic - recommend that I should do the IMC written exam after being at least halfway through the IMC practical stuff. Would it be too perverse to do the written first which is my intention?

I would recomend that you do the exams before the flying , the exams are not to bad but like all CAA exams SOME of the questions are rather removed from reality.
Get the exam distraction out of the way and then get on with the "real world " learning.

I did the written in the middle as by then I had a better grasp of the course. I don't think I would have had a clue before I started the best bit. Reading about the course didn't really sink in without the practical side. But then you might have more of a brain than I have, if so do it first.
