I can't help you with most of your problems, such as Wx or serviceability, but on the subject of instructors leaving to join the airlines the answer is simple. Look around for a career instructor, usually recognisable by the fact that they are usually over 50.

GFT number 12 cancelled today. No.13 is in 2 weeks (seven months after the first booking)
And re. instructors... mine has just told me he's got hisself another job - good for him, but p*ss-poor timing for me...
Two weeks now until uni goes back - two flights booked this week. Reckon I'll make it??
