Renewing IMCR by means of an FAA IR
Further to earlier discussion on the topic, I thought it might be useful to confirm that the CAA will renew an IMCR by means of an FAA IR test pass. It cost 70 pounds, is valid for 25 months from the date of the FAA IR test pass and includes a bit of paper saying that I am exempt from the ANO requirement for an IMCR test pass. The form required is the one for applying for a new IMCR. The information about the US license didn't really fit in any boxes so I just wrote it in some blank space.

I should jolly well hope so, given that the FAA IR checkride is a helluva lot harder than the IMCR one. But this is useful news I suppose for those wanting to retain their IFR (CAS) privileges for a G-reg.
In practice one would arrange one's FAA IR BFR with a UK based instructor, and get one's IMCR and the UK PPL renewed all at the same time.
