ROBIN HOOD DONCASTER SHEFFIELD AIRPORT ATZ
That really is a bit of political "keep everybody happy" name isn't it - right up there with renaming Halfpenny Green "Wolverhampton Business Spaceport".

If they really didn't like Finningly, surely "Doncaster airport" would have been enough.

Thanks for the heads up Mike,

G

And 5 MHz spacing?...
One assumes this NOTAM will be corrected before 030001/JAN05.

Thanks for the heads up anyway Mike.

More interestingly, they have indicated that for a period one can shoot free approaches to help with training the tower staff.

Good for simulated IFR training etc,

Training the tower staff left me a bit worried ..

Whilst Finningley is only about 5 miles from that dump called Doncaster, it is 25 miles from Sheffield. So why on earth is it Doncaster Sheffield? Oh well, I suppose one northern ghetto is much like another?

Yes, shades of Wolverpennyhamptongreen Intergalactic Spaceport again, I fear. And our Robin certainly must have got around, with Gamston, Tollerton and Castle Donington all claiming connections...

Yorkshire International would have been better, but maybe AuntieBessiesYorkshirePuddingIntergalacticWormholePortal would be more in keeping with modern thinking. It would also justify the building of a terminal big enough to fit the name on.

Aren't the residents of Sheffield getting a little greedy?

They now have two "airports".

Well, you understand one is an International[U] airport while the other is a Regional[U] Airport & Heliport.

Quite different places. Totally different functions.

Perhaps DoncasterSheffieldHoodInternational could be renamed Trent International because of the nearness of that big river, or perhaps Tickhill International, as this will be the village that gets most annoyed with the overflights of large jets.

Bawtry will get a little noise too.....

Nottingham (don't ask if that's really Tollerton or Castle Donington) claimed Robin Hood first.

Doncaster should get their own robber. How about Blair International?

It's closer to Hull than Barnsley and far from Blair land so perhaps "2Jags International" would be better to commemerate the deputy PM.

I believe Sheffield Regional Airport and Heliport was built partly on the site of Mr Scargill's golf course so perhaps this would be a shorter name for the other site.

Isn't Kirmington aerodrome, sorry, 'oomberside International Shellport the spiritual home of Biffer 2Jags?

Presumably 't Nawrth has so many regional airports to facilitate escape from the god-forsaken place?

I'm sure all these 'Norvern' comments must violate my human rights in some form.

Where's my lawyer when I need him?
