Newcastle Aero Club
Tocsin (& Tocsin jr) have have just re-started after the best part of a year's break - Andy is just the ticket, I think.
Though we've been weathered off a couple of times, we got a generous dose of windscreen-spitting and ground school.
Looking forward to a flight to EGNC and circuit-bashing...

Andy is a top bloke. Never flown with him but he went through the full external pre-flights with me (for the first time), whilst waiting for my instructor (JC). He was a great laugh!
Regarding the wings bar - anyone know if you get confirmation of application, and whether its accepted. I applied a while ago (on the 'net) but haven't heard anything...?
Also TJ - any news on that picture mentioned from a while back?
Cheers,
JW.

Re Wings
Just turn up. Nobody will ask for your membership. I believe that was only something they did to get around some licensing resrtrictions and it has absolutely no impact whatsoever upon your ability to come in and enjoy a drink and some food. I don't know anybody with any membership confirmation, and I have logged many hours in front of the bar.
Just beware the toilets. There has recently been some (ahem) unpleasantness therein (allegedly) between two blokes who weren't exactly man and wife.

Sorry chaps, have had to remove your 'hints' in your posts regarding the alleged activities in the toilets.
You all may know who is involved up there but the rest of the world don't and I am sure he/they, wouldn't be too happy reading your comments on an international forum for pilots.
Just be aware it is me who will have to deal with the threats of legal action and demands for your posts to be removed etc etc so, bearing that in mind please don't drop any more obvious hints.
Thanks.

Hi gang.
Was speaking to Clarky yesterday and he's still trying to pick a suitable date - to be realistic it's likely to be this month.
Will post something when news available.
I think you will find the "mentioned incident" was down to non flying members who possibly obtain work at Mr P's empire on the North Side.
The matter has been dealt with by the management and they have been assured there will be no repeat of this incident. Peolple should therefore respect Wings management and not make pathetic comments re: "Rings" Bar etc as this is defamatory.... people should remember, never cut off the hand that feeds you.
I will add that the management ARE aware of who certain PPRUNERS are who have only recently joined the "Newcastle Aero Club" thread who have made these comments.

Glad da management have taken action. I hope the police have been advised of lewd conduct and that the alleged offenders (assuming they had the brass neck) never appear again. It's a nice club, and for the families who come in, it ought to be a pleasant place to spend a few hours.

Yeh - all necessary action taken and for their own sakes we ALL hope they find a new venue.
Nice words re: the establishment - the boys have grafted their nuts off to get the place the way it is and I'm sure people will echo my support for them.

Anybody Flying?
Yes!
Some knacker in a Bulldog circling my house at low level this afternoon! Obviously not aware that the spadeadam AIAA is active at weekends when weekend warriors mess around at low level in big green flingwings. In fact a three ship of CH47s passed by in trail formation just a matter of minutes before the said intrusion. Also active during the weekends are AH64s and you are even less likely to spot them against the greenery.
Nice looking Bulldog though

Mandatory Handling and other robberies
Hi, yesterday my wife and I dropped into Newcastle in a light single. I was directed by the Tower to Samson Aviation to be "handled".
What actually happened was that the guy called us a taxi and made out a bill a couple of hours later, charging us about £50 in total for the priviledge.
Yup, this is an expensive hobby, but I for one don't like having the p*** taken like this.
So, before I decide never to darken the door of your (very nice) airport again, can I just ask you guys if it's possible to visit Newcastle and not be "handled" like this ? Could I declare myself to be visiting the flying club, for example ?
Any advice ?
Thanks,
FF

Hi,
I often wondered if you have to go to Samson . ATC always seems to direct visitors there, but having to pay £50 each time seems a bit excessive!! I would have thought you could just go to the flying club...you should at least have the option!
On a different matter - I've finally got another lesson booked after a few weeks out. Weather permiting I'm doing circuits on friday. Already been called off, due to low cloud base, before I was away so fingers crossed I'll get up again!

Seeing this thread become active again I wonder if anyone knows what became of the investigation into the former management of the club and its demise? I notice that the administrator's club page has not been updated. Have the old boys got away with it?
Sorry to hear about the landing fee extortion. You could try (your wife) smiling nicely. That seems to work often.
