Chirk Airfield

I want to visit that famous aqueduct near Llangollen and this seems to be the nearest strip. VFR guide has the longest runway N-S at 500(?)x20m.

Do the owners welcome non-microlights? Anyone been there in a light a/c? Are the approaches open, surfaces smooth, slope modest ?

We would be 2 up in a PA28R-200. Any other comments or suggestions welcome.

Runways no longer exist; no-one's mown the grass for years. Basically it's a big and rather rough field. You can't use it at weekends; they have car boot sales, although it's possibly OK in the winter. But I can't see any kind of PA28 getting in there. Try Welshpool or Sleap, both about the same distance from the aqueduct.
