2-litre vw engines

hallo all
Does anyone have any information on these engines; i.e, availability of core engines, reduction drives, non-magneto ignition systems, mounting set-ups,exhausts,etc. In particular, the engine set-up made by one Gene Smith of Rolla, Missouri(I think).
Many thanks

2 litre VW

Have you considered the motor in the Grob 109b? It is a 2.5 litre 90 hp unit derived from a VW camper engine and with Porsche cylinders. You migh tthen enjoy the luxury of a 3 position prop too?!

Airborne Composites at Wing Farm Warminster will be able to put you on the track of one - they fix them up for the RAF as well as private.

Great engine provided you avoid shock cooling it.

All the best

Hello all
thanks for the gen. I'd like to put together a two-litre to drag a VeePee-2 aloft, with as simple a set-up as possible. That is, dual electronic automotive-derived ignition, with a belt reduction drive, simple exhaust, etc. there are so many VW types around, it's hard to get definitive information.
regards

Hi

Have a look at the Great Plains web site, they are the leading VW converters in the US, make sure the conservative PFA engineering lot approve before you spend any money though!

Great Plains

Also have a look at the Corvair conversion. Apparently one is being built up in the UK at the moment with the PFA taking an active role.

Corvair conversion

Cheers
