Nav Warning - Biggin Hill

Prior warning for you all that the Biggin Hill Air Show normally held in June is in fact taking place on Sat/Sun 18/19 September 2004.

Please check your AIC's for details of the Temporary Restricted Airspace around Biggin on those two days.

Additionally on Sunday there is a larger TRA for the Red Arrows display. In view of the problems faced at other Arrows displays we will be placing Patriot missiles around the perimeter to remove any infringing aircraft.

Also note that Friday 17 September is arrivals and practice day. although we do not have a TRA on that day you can expect to see high speed and high energy manoeuvres taking place near Biggin.

Other than during the Red Arrows display transits south abeam the aifield following the M25 are perfectly feasable. Transits via the overhead may be difficult at times on Friday and downright impossible between 1100 and 1800 local time on Sat/Sun.

Call Biggin Approach on 129.4 mhz for information.

Regards

SATCO

I'll never forget the guy who turned up, no PPR and non - radio, 30 seconds into the Red's display which opened the air show which I was working at, at that time. The Red's had to stop the display while he joined overhead and landed, completely oblivious to the chaos he was causing.
When questioned later, he said he didn't have time to telephone for PPR before setting off, cos' if he had done so, he would have landed later than he originally did....

Purely out of interest, do the 'Maitland Mafia' still run the Biggin extravagasa?
Regards to Jim (and Jock if he's still with us).

Yep the Maitland Mafia are still going, although Jim has dropped out of the air display side of the business.

Jock runs the show despite retiring a few years back!!

Thre has to be questions over the viability of running this sort of show. The overheads are now so high that the price on the gate is becoming prohibitive to the public. Especially with the freebie show at Eastbourne every summer.
