TIO-540 engine overhaul?

Can anyone give myself and my colleague a rough factory reman cost for the above Lycoming turbocharged engine for a light single we are planning on buying? The current engine is just about a runout so we are trying to budget carefully for replacement.

What choices would you consider when buying a new Lycoming? Import direct from the USA (+VAT?) or ask your own engineer to both source and fit?

Any advice on pitfalls much appreciated.

What aircraft is it? If TB21, you could ask at socata.org for options. I know the TIO-540 costs about double at overhaul time of the IO-540, and the IO-540 costs about £20k. But the figures will vary according to which of several options you choose. Some are not worth doing.

£20k for the I0540 is about on the mark in my experience, no idea on the "T" but as IO540 says it'll be a load more.

Ask CES Oxford, they'll give you prices for all the options, quoted me £24k for a factory remanuf zero time on an IO540 with o/haul depending of what standard a few grand less.

Hurts dunnit

Ojuka,

If you are looking for a slightly more reasonable overhaul price, send an email to Bruce McWhorter, the general manager of Devine engines in Texas.

Email: [email protected]
Phone: +1 830 663 3728

These folks overhauled a TCM GTSIO engine for my account two years ago, and it runs like a well oiled clock.

Their prices are well worth the call.
Nice folks.

Thanks guys. Much more expensive than we'd at first thought. We had naiively guessed around the £25k mark but the additional cost of the turbo seems shocking.

The aircraft is a Cessna T182RG priced at £65k with 100 hrs left on the engine. Obviously after refit the aircraft is nearer £100k which in my opinion is unrealistic.
