French Prohibited Areas!

(1) Over the next few weeks I was hoping to hop across the Channel again and get a few more french fields in my logbook. One I quite fancied was St Valery but when I downloaded the latest map for the prohibited zones I noticed St Valery is included with the restricted area for Paluel. Has anybody been in recently and can give any advice on procedures for access to the field?

(2) Could somebody give me the latest freq for calais twr as I believe 118.1 is now obsolete (as is my Delage now!!). Is it also true that Calais now need 24 notice for customs. If so I'll use L2K

Thanks

Nick

St Valery is a great little airfield. We often go up there from LFPD for lunch. It has a great restaurant....and it's fun to taxi across the road to park the aircraft next to the restaurant (cars will usually stop to let you go but they do have right of way! Do look left and right!

RE Paluel: even though St Valery appears to be inside the nuclear plant restricted area, you are OK as long as you do you circuit on the east side of the airfield. Don't overfly the plant - not good for pilot licenses these days.

Don't know about Calais, sorry.

Yes, Calais require 24 hours prior notice to Customs. I just fax them from my PC and have never had a problem.

I know others who risk going without sending a fax - dangerous!

Does Item C) in the above NOTAM refer to the termination date/time of this NOTAM?

Flyboynick:

The other issues with respect to restricted French airspace involve the (ever increasing) number of "industrial" installations having prohibited areas around them; LFOS is only one of them. I understand that infringing these is a fine of approx 30,000 Euros.

The French authorities, however, have been kind enough to actually mark them on a map of France, published by their AIS; when I get back to work I will post the websites where these can be found. But for starters, it will be somewhere at http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/default_uk.htm

Particulaire, note that AIP SUP NR 58/03 is now up to issue 58B/03

This information is much to be recommended
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/64/DAP_ACD_French500K.pdf
Includes links and printable chart sections for new temporary prohibited areas.

AIP and all the other stuff you might need is here
