books required in the Manchester area

I am looking at doing my ppl in the next few months and wonder if there is any books that anyone can recommend to buy to help me get on my way i am looking to do i as quickly as poss so the more books that can help me the better. Also if there is anyone from the manchester area could you tell me the best place to get them(anywhere near the airport, name &location). also 1 last question can i sit the exams in the UK then go to the USA and do the flying due to weather and dollor rate. Any help would be great.

Try 'Airplan Flight Equipment' for your books & stuff. They're on Shadowmoss rd (really close to the airport). They've got loads of PPL material, namely the Jeremy Pratt books.

If you're serious about doing the PPL you can travel to the USA and do the whole thing there (including the exams). Right now you'll save a fortune & the training that the JAA-approved schools offer is pretty good.
