I supose it was unevitable once Peel got ownership, but I didn't expect this to start so soon.

Oh dear the proposed new buildings look very nice but the ones they replace house the clubhouse and the hangar stuffed full of permit types. I dread to think what the new charges costs will become and where will coffee and grub come from - not a machine I hope !!

On the one hand this does underline Peel's committment to keep Barton as an operational field.

On the other expansion will erode the club atmosphere that was a unique selling point in the region.

Be interesting to see the committees reaction.

Sir George - my fear is it's death by stealth. Peel want to develop Barton 'cause it's worth a lot more as real estate than if left as an airfield, but as I'm sure you know if they went straight for planning permission for that it would probably be refused. This plan is 'for enhancement of airfield facilities' so may well be approved; but you can be sure the buildings will be multi-purpose. Demolishing the clubhouse won't enhance it for us, but that probably won't count for much.

So, what's next? Increased charges for hangarage? Big landing fees? Limited and costly car parking for LAC? Difficult site access for LAC members especially at weekends and evenings? These measures result in a big reduction in GA movements, but the business helos keep coming in. So Peel point to reduced GA use, and develop more of the field while retaining a business helo facility (so the aviation use clause is honoured).

This is all conjecture on my part and I may well be wrong. I hope so. But LAC needs to be looking for a new home IMHO.

Be funny if LAC ended up back at Woodford eh?

If not Wilmslow Int'l where? Stretton seems obstinately not an option and any random field in Cheshire would have the locals bandying together as an action group faster than one could say "Outline planning application"!

Might as well go to Blackpool as Salmesbury. The nearest GA field south of Barton is Sleap in Shropshire, to the North it's Blackpool. Any Barton replacement needs to be somewhere between the two.

Used to fly out of Blackpool with Westair- no way the tower could cope with the extra movements, and as it's ATC doubt the Barton gang would like it

Woodford is a none starter, guy I know opened a school there a few years ago, messed around silly by BAe, and eventually closed cause of the Nimrod project - now that's being scrubbed doubt Woodford will be there in a few years - heard there are plans to build a by pass across the airfield.

Sleap is way to far out of the way for LAC, and would need a lot doin' to it - new hangers and taxipaths.

Stretton needs a pile more work and is probably too close to the big boys at Manch.

If LAC stick with Barton then I thnk they'll be lucky if they have the run of the place - my money's on Peel Airports running it with LAC just one of several clubs

No news from Wednesdays clubhouse forum except that such an important topic occupied the last 30 minutes of a 2 hour meeting.

It appears that if the committee have a strategy they are not even saying they have one let alone discussing it with the members.

With the statutory comment period already ticking time is running out to mount a campaign to object to the LAC Clubhouse, which has been the spiritual home of the club, being demolished.

Have a close look at the plans lodged by Peel with Salford.
Zoom in on the Admin building and notice the size of the reception. See the word "in" on one door and at the other end of the hall "out".

Looks to me more like a mini Terminal than a training/recetion area.
