Flying clubs/schools in Slovenia?
A possible holiday destination this summer. Any personal recommendations for somewhere to hire a plane and instructor for a "flying lesson", ie joyride for which one can log the time?

I was there for 2 days last summer - lovely place, friendly people and a good level of english!
Unfortauntely i wasnt flying - the only thing remotely on the same lines i saw advertised was a day of paragliding (€70) near the area of Lake Bled...
thats all i can tell you - have a great time!

Not much GA in Slovenia as far as I can remember, not many airfields either. Ljubljana Int and a place called Porterosh (sp?) only ones I can remember. I think the latter has a flying club. its on the coast nearest large town is Koper. Hope that helps.

I was in Slovenia earlier this year. Its a nice place. There are only three international airports, at Llubjana, Maribor and Portoroz. I got the impression that the rest were essentially gliding sites but you can land powered aircraft if you ask nicely. There was certainly GA in evidence at Llubljana.
Just north of Llubljana was a gliding field at Lesce. I had a link to its english web site and it seemed to offer hire possibilities but the link is no longer working. Here it is anyway, maybe it will get fixed at some point www.alc-lesce.si
Google also pulled up http://www.aeroklub-lj.si/ which looks like its got planes for hire out of Llubljana.
Further info at http://www.sigov.si/mpz/4pod/5/a7l.html#14 and http://www.burger.si/SLOIndex.htm
If none of that works, the people at the GA place at Llubljana were very helpful to me and might be able to point you in the right direction http://www.lju-airport.si/eng/vsebina.asp?IDM=218

There is lot's of GA activity in Slovenia.
Last year (2003) I was in Portoroz doing some touch and
go training at Solin Air They fly from Portoroz and from Lubljana.
For a list of Slovanian CAA licensed FTO or RF's:
http://www.caa-rs.si/images/pripone/...ENG_120504.pdf
Use google to find the contact details.
I found the instructurs to be very good, all ex joegoslav
airforce, however instruction was a way for them to earn
money so they were not 'instructors from heart'. All-in-all,
a very cheap way of getting additional hours and brush up
your landing skills.
1 hour C150 with instruction EUR 73,- ~ GBP 50.-
1 hour C172 with instruction EUR 97,- ~ GBP 67.-
Anyways, wife on the beach 2 hours flying per day,
perfect holiday for both
Cheers,
Alex

There is an airfield within cycling distance of Lake Bled. I made the trip a few years back. Access no problem and were all very friendly. Beautiful scenery as you are up near the mountains. I have some photos at home - see if I can work out any further info from them.........?
It was a great place to visit and wouldn't mind going back one day.
Beware Bled Trifle - fantastic dessert

You might be interested to know that the link I posted above to the airfield at Lesce (this is within cycling distance of Bled) is now working. They seem to have a C150 at 75E per hour.

Outcome
I attempted to arrange two flights with Solinair, one from each of their bases.
The arrangement for flying from Brnik worked OK - an hour and a half in a 172 covered a fair percentage of the country! I was perfectly happy with both the aircraft and the instructor (give or take he ended up doing the landing, having confused me with a completely different combination of shape of circuit, use of flaps, etc, to anything I'm used to, but the point of the trip was the sightseeing not the landing so no big deal).
I was not so luck in arranging the second flight, from Portoroz. In the end they didn't call me back and didn't answer their phone when I called them, so it never happened (they seemed reluctant to make a firm booking in advance by email, which is what I was trying to do). Possibly a cultural thing, we also had two hotel bookings go wrong because they didn't take seriously our attempts to enter into a firm arrangement by email.
