Private Flying Costs
Hi,
When you have your PPL, what are the costs involved in actually hiring out aircraft? For example what does the actual hire cost per hour include, and what do you have to pay extra?
Thanks a lot
James

Price is as advertised, for a typical light aircraft such as a C172 or PA28 you are looking at something in the order of £90 - £140 depending upon aircraft fit, and where in the country you are.
This will normally cover use of the aircraft, fuel and at most (not all) airfields your homebase landing fees. Landing fees away you will normally have to pay for, and generally you need your own maps, headset, airfield guide, pointless yellow jacket etc.
If you need checking out, you need to pay for that too!
Now you know why so many keen PPLs join syndicates, where the checkouts are free, and the costs are much less. (Also in a syndicate you can usually take the aeroplane away for a few days, a practice that most clubs aren't very fond of since it's probaby their training machine you're hiring.)

In my local flying club the costs per hour are:
Cessna 172N (25-26 yrs old
):
Normal price: NOK 1075/£90.
Reduced price: NOK 750/£63.*
Diamond DA20-A1 Katana (6 yrs old):
Normal price: NOK 750/£63.
Reduced price: NOK 630/£53.*
Prices include fuel, landing fees for nearly all Norwegian state owned airports, ok headsets, life vests etc. You pay for airborne time plus 10 minutes (runup, taxi etc.).
Membership in a Norwegian flying club costs about £100, per year.
*By paying an extra annual fee of NOK 2000/£167 you will get a remarkable discount on the cost per hour. You will save money this way if you fly more than 6 hours and 9 minutes every year. Easy choice...
