Maypole needs letters of support

This sent to Action for airfields - I've sent mine, please send one as well.

"At Maypole we have been gently pursuing a relaxation in the planning restrictions we are subject to, for the last few years. Last year we achieved a permanent allocation of three days per year for events when we could have 40 take-offs. We have now put the paperwork in to get the take-off limit raised from 12 to 25 per day. The planning application was registered today and we need letters of support urgently. We have no doubt that this will be contentious in the local community."

"You know all too well the minimum sort of letter needed to support our planning application. The council tell us that they will now accept an emailed letter of support. The key points are that it contains a senders full name, address and the planning application number. An email address is not enough. It needs to look like a letter. The letter can either be posted or emailed to
[email protected]."

"It would help us a lot if you could get some more letters of support sent in. If the letter says that the sender has visited the airfield, that will help too. Comments that the airfield is well run and the safety record is second to none would help as well. In fact, anything positive that can be said will assist. If nothing else, just saying the letter is written in support of the application is enough."

I have enclosed a sample letter which has all the key details included.

Please let me know if you can help us.

All the best,

Andy Haigh

Hi Andy

I wanted to fly down a few weeks ago with 3 other aircraft, but was asked not to due to movement restrictions. Myself and one other would have been fine, but it was shame to miss a trip to this lovely part of Kent.

Mail sent.

In support of Maypole Farm

I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to read this thread.

I've been fortunate enough to visit Maypole a number of times in my Citabria so a few minutes spent writing a letter was no trouble.

Here's what I sent:

Planning Application Number:

Dear Mr Moat

Re: Maypole Airfield -Relaxation of Aircraft Movement Restrictions

I am a private pilot and aircraft owner.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Maypole airfield on a number of occasions and always been impressed with the professional nature in which the airfield is run.

During my visits I have been able to utilise local taxi firms to visit nearby Herne Bay to enjoy the scenery and sample the hospitality in the range of restaurants along the sea-front.

I have been aware of the current restrictions placed upon the airfield with respect to the limit of the number of daily movement and I have once or twice been asked not to
fly in as a visitor as this would cause potential problems for Maypole Farm based aircraft.

This letter is to urge you to relax the restrictions to Maypole Farm aerodrome so that a few more visitors would be able to drop in and be able to help support a well-run local business and perhaps spend time and money in the local area.

I don’t feel that the number of movements being requested will significantly impinge upon local residents’ enjoyment of the area but would certainly permit a more flexible use of the aerodrome.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my views.

Yours truly,

CHRIS GRAY.
