How to insert pictures into PPRuNe posts

If you click on the "scenery" button (to the right of the paper clip in the message menu bar above your text) you will see the screen below - you can enter the URL of a picture that is already hosted on the internet, or you can just drag & drop pictures directly from your PC / device onto the big white arrow, or browse your PC / device and select the images. Once they show hit upload top right . JPGs, PNGs or GIFs can be uploaded. Other file types may be possible.

any chance you could accept .webp format pictures - they seem to becoming more common.....................

Not with the current version of the software (ImageMagick 6). It's supported with ImageMagick 7, but I don't know if that's compatible with vBulletin 3.9.X.

I've asked IB the question.

Thanks for the suggestion!

thanks!

Has the method changed since the first advice.
I used to be able to post images but not now.
Certainly no sign of "white arrow"
Any advice ?

edited to add. Up to date Samsung Android phone.

Still exactly the same for a Windows PC, which is what I have in front of me. I'm pretty sure it will be the same for a Linux PC or Mac.

I have no idea what an Android phone will be like with (presumably) the mobile skin.

Yep ! Easy as pie on Win PC.
Used to be easy on android but the options for selecting a source are useless!

Thanks anyway SD :-)

Does the above apply to YouTube clips? I’m pretty dim on this stuff.

To post a YouTube clip, press the Link button:

Then paste the whole YouTube URL in the URL box (the system will take care of the Protocol), you can leave the Display Text blank:

And then press OK, and Submit Reply:

I just paste the YouTube URL straight into the reply box and save. Works every time.

Is there an easy way to alter the displayed image size? It seems that when I try to upload an image it appears larger here than in its original location. Would be nice if the image could be scaled appropriately.

Jhieminga 27th October 2025 13:41

The forum software does try to fit the image into the available space as far as I know, but I would need to check that. What you describe could mean that the image is shown scaled to a smaller size in the original location, I assume you mean a website? It is always wise to check the actual image dimensions (in pixels) and adjust before uploading. That saves on storage space and potential display issues. There are other reasons that could lead to larger images than expected but it is difficult to comment further without knowing a bit more about the circumstances.

Edited to add: When you resize the PPRuNe window, the photos get resized automatically, so no real need to worry about this.

Many thanks artee, ORAC too. I don’t intend to flood JB with videos but it’s nice to know how.
