STN chaos today!?
 

It looks as if a Ryanair flight into Stansted dropped its passengers off at the Departures Gate rather than at Arrivals... How this happened is a mystery, but it caused delays of up to an hour for lots of passengers.

If it did happen, I suspect that's more the fault of the airport than the airline.

Last time i was flying i was still parking at a plane stand on the ramp, not at any bus stop...so if it did really happen, not airlines fault but handling mistake.

The departure gates ARE the arrival gates. Some inbound gates are bused (DUB, JER etc) and some are dual gates (international in bound, domestic out). I'd say at a guess it was one of these such gates. There have been times where the buses have dropped them at the wrong area and the in/out pax have mixed,don't remember that making the news though

It happened many times for various arlines at JNB before the new terminal was ready. Too many aircraft and not enough stands. The airport staff should know (yea right) how to handle the situation and escort the pax around the back alleys of the building to the right place.

Rather than Ryanair "dropping off" inbound SLF at a Departures gate instead of an Arrivals one, I would've thought what actually happened was the arriving pax found themselves channelled into Departures. Perhaps one passenger took a wrong turn and the rest blindly followed, sheep-like.

Hardly Ryanair's fault, more likely poor "marshalling" (i.e. herding) from the gate into the main terminal building.

At Stansted domestic arrivals are allowed back into the departure gate to mix with outbound passengers and exit accordingly. I'm guessing the poor Handling Agent has either got the flight's origin mixed up or has swiped the wrong set of doors.

I would imagine if arriving pax did mix with departing pax (a big security no no) then all departing pax already in lounge would need to be re-screened and departure lounge swept for security......

Back in the last century when I was a Radio Officer at sea, I routinely flew into Heathrow and then for speed, rather than take the bus between terminals to catch the BA Shuttle to Manchester, used put my luggage on a trolley and head off, following the signs, through a maze of passageways.


On this particular occasion, my wife had accompanied me on my voyage, so showing off a bit, I piled our luggage on a trolley and set off at some speed to try and make out Shuttle flight to Manchester.


Some kind person held a passageway door open for us, he had just exited it, and seconds later we were the only two people standing before an immigration desk. I passed him our passports and was asked the question, "where have you come from"? "Antwerp" I replied. He shook his head. "There is no way you can be standing there if you have flown in from Antwerp"! I showed him our tickets, he shook his head again, handed us back our passports and left us to navigate a new route to the Shuttle lounge.

Here's a report from the BBC.

Apparently some arriving passengers were sent to the airside lounge rather than to the immigration hall. Why this 'error', which could not have been foreseen by black-hats, should require the re screening of all pax in the lounge is beyond belief. Obviously arriving pax from another EU airport will have be screened there but ...

The terrorists have won ...

But why? These SLF departed from an EU airport and would have been screened there. Why is it a security issue?

Thousands inconvenienced and no compensation payable, as it wasn't the airline at fault.

Probably just back covering by staff in the absence of anyone with the authority to apply a reasonable risk assessment. What were the chances that someone on the inbound flight from Lisbon had brought something and given it to one of the outbound passengers? If you can't answer that better cover your back and rescreen everyone.

"Fortress Jobsworth" UK at its very best . . . maybe someone arrived with a yoghurt ? or a bottle of water ? which they could have passed on to another passenger (just in case he didn't like the price of a bottle of water in STN airside) seems that "ups" were "screwed" by the jobswurffs. . . bet there will be no anguished wringing of hands (better necks :E ) on the level of that expressed if you tried to pass through with something like an EMA airside pass. . . .

That is quite imaginative, even compared to the many other "thread migrations" I have witnessed. . . Oh yes,history? hey, it starts today, nostalgia ? . . . Is this an UK regulation? As someone noted before it is normal that arriving passengers are in the same hall as departures. This is the case in the US, Europe, Asia and everywhere.
