Not impressed with BA RJ BHX ops

I recently gave praise to SN Brussels Airlines for their excellent punctuality record on their BRU-BHX. In contrast both my recent BA DUS-BHX-DUS flights were delayed by 90 minutes! A BA man told me that the frequent delays are due to two reasons. The first is that when the RJs were moved to BHX apparently the engineering and spares didn't follow. Consequently some tech problems can take longer than normal to resolve. Secondly, the RJs are operating on the former A319 timetable which on some of the longer routes make it impossible for them to keep to the planned schedule.
This will be resolved with the Winter timetable! So, be warned dear BHX travellers.

Sounds a bit odd to me. The RJ can cope with 900 mile sectors, about twice as far as Duesseldorf ( I use the Comair service between La Guardia & Florida.)

I would also have thought that they cruise around the sam e order of magnitue of speed of a 319 and that any small difference would be compensated for by the faster turnaround of a 50 seater over a 110 seater?

Odd.

F3G ,

This is the BAe RJ100 (operated by BACX), not the Canadair CRJ. The RJ100 carries 100 pax and cruises roughly 40-50 knots slower than the A319. On the DUS sector it equates to a difference of about 5-7 minutes each way. On the Madrid I guess it would be 12-15 minutes each way. With minimal turnaround times already there's not much chance of making up any lost time. The a/c that flies the evening DUS rotation is on it's 5th and 6th rotation of the day, with the previous being BHX-MAD-BHX (don't know what the earlier morning one is). Throw in the odd small ATC or tech delay and it's playing catch-up all day, generally without much success and, it seems, no spare a/c to take the strain.

Ah ha

Makes complete sense now.

My assumption was that you were talking about the Maersk CRJs, rather than the Avros, which are 'leisurely' as you say.

Also, no great advantage on turnaround times with 110 vs 100 seats.
