Ryanair Excess Baggage Charges
Wife and child lfew from Knock to Stansted last summer on nice low fare of something like 39GBP apiece. They had luggage that they had transported on EI across the Atlantic at no extra charge. But lo and behold, upon arrival at Knock Airport, they were charged about 50GBP apiece for excess baggage. They each had a large rolling piece and a small garmet bag between them in addition to standard rollaboard carryons.
Beware, and if possible, fly naked when flying on Ryanair!

As far as I am aware for all airlines charges for excess baggage (either in number of luggages for some airlines either in kgs for others) apply differently from transatlantics to domestics.
Am I wrong?

Ryanair fares now include a baggage allowance of 15kgs per person - any over will be charged. This does not mean that you can check 15kgs plus 5kgs of handluggage (a total of 20kgs) - it means that you can check-in 15kgs of luggage and you can carry your hand luggage seperately. Also worth remembering that infants are not entitled to a free baggage allowance.
Central Search (security control) at STN is very good at sending pax back to check-in if they have overweight hand luggage, remember this when you are trying to hide your heavy hand baggage from your check-in agent!

Having said that, British Airways and most of the hitherto "Flag Carriers" will honour the higher allowances providing the passenger provides evidence of recent Transatlantic flight - even if it was ticketed separately. It is a frequent cause of complaint among us BA shareholding staff that pax travelling from IAH to LGW with Continental and going on to ABZ (where the "add on" fare is about GBP 15) should IMHO be charged for every kilo of baggage - but that's another story!
The trouble here is that the "no-frills" boys do not honour IATA agreements!
Let's face it, at GBP39.00, they've got to finance their fuel bills somehow!
