but wouldnt someone have noticed any screams etc in the confines of an aircraft and raised the alarm?

Most times I see the CC folk they are working as a team with little or no slack in the system i.e. They are working, talking or on the cabin phone, especially on short haul, long haul there is more time though.
Strange that this chap wasn't missed by his fellow CC even if just to say "Where X disappeared to the lazy B**ger".
