Lufthansa in-flight Internet

As reported in The Register, the first commercial flight using "Connexion by Boeing" left Frankfurt for Washington DC today. Now you can browse PPRuNe at 35,000 feet!

As stated in the article, connection is either Ethernet (with a socket in the seat) or Wi-Fi (802.11 wireless LAN). Anyone else find it confusing that mobile phones are such a problem in flight, but wireless LANs (using not dissimilar technology) aren't. Couldn't be anything to do with the fact that this new service will generate extra revenue, I suppose?

There's a thread on this on Reporting Points, including a message posted directly from the LH flight.
