We are law-abiding White British Anglicans, the wife and I - quite the English stereotypical couple, don't you know. When we visited Florida in March this year, both of us were fingerprinted, doicumented and tabulated when we went to the local bank to cash Thomas Cook Travellers Cheques.

Because we're law-abiding, we have nothing to fear! The bloody ink is a bit difficult to get off afterwards and it's a little embarrassing to be singled out in front of other customers, but definitely not anything to make a fuss about.

As far as I'm concerned, when I visit another country, whether Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist or Sikh (and whoever else I've left out) I do so as their guest and abide by that country's wishes. I keep my faith and customs, yet respect the faith and customs of my hosts, and try to avoid any actions which may cause offence. If my "hosts" want me to be fingerprinted or even to report somewhere daily, as long as they don't abuse me, I'll go along with their wishes.

Too many people seem to think that they can hide behind the facade of our racial equality laws! Unfortunately, British and American goodwill in trying to create racial harmony is backfiring due to some ethnic p*sstaking!!!

Blacksheep has got it right in my opinion.

And Tiger, I am 6'3" white, blond hair, blue eyes, and last time I had a trip through the US I was pulled over for gate searches on 5 flights out of 6.

It was irritating, but not a major problem. However, I don't feel these gate searches do anything significant to enhance my security on the flight.

"Random" Security Screening

It seems to me like they have maybe two to three screeners per x-ray machine. So if you happen to go through and the screeners are "busy" you'll just walk through. If they are just finishing up with someone they will turn around and get the very next person coming through. Doesn't seem to matter who that person is or what they look like.

I could be wrong but that's how it seems to work to me.

I`m pleased to see that airport security has improved. (being an ex security trainer, I did all the MI5 training etc a couple of years ago)

I not sure by some of the postings, but I`d like to point out I was not irritated or complaining about being searched.
It was an observation.

As for being against America, er I`m not. I admit I dislike the spam and corned beef they sent to Europe during WW2, and we suffered it in school dinners in the 1960/70`s but other than that I don`t have any hang ups. As a kid in the mid 70`s I was lucky enough to live there, and recently found a few old mates from school . I have a British friend who was in the Towers when hit, luckly he is alive and OK, but refuses to go near a plane and does not want to see his parents, who live locally to me.

A couple of points I`d like to make.

1. How does adding a coloured tag to the bags of the first check I had done which involved a test for explosives. This would allow the gate check security staff know I had been checked, and perhaps a second check at the gate pick 1 or 2 out. The tags should be different colours dated etc... This would give gate staff the chance to check other paxs

2. Soon as gate staff found my ID the bag search wasn`t so indepth, pockets missed on the bag etc... We all know about jounos.

One reason for finger printed at T.Cook was because of money laundering. Many criminals target Travel agents more so than banks as they think the foreign exchange staff are easier to doop.
Another scam is to buy a full fare fully flexible ticket in cash then later cash the ticket back in.
