In the case of Aerolineas Argentinas(12), Varig (11), the Brazilian Air Force (12), Bouraq (20), South African Airways (5), and many more, they were used as DC-3 replacements. The DC-3s were often moved onto second level operations, or sold abroad. I believe there are still a few Hindustan-built aircraft in operation.

DC-3s - maybe 150 out of some 10000 plus DC-3/C-47s built. Not sure if that includes Basler conversions. Normally check the list of airworthy aircraft maintained on Warbird Info Exchange but accessing the site is particularly tricky today!
Managed to get in to the WIX site and John Terrell considers at least 190 DC-3s of all versions are currently airworthy.
