Amex membership rewards and airlines
I am only familiar with transferring these to Emirates Skywards miles (one point = 880 sky-yards, hardly a bargain) and Avios. I have quite a lot of Amex points, they don't expire so I have saved them up rather than transferring them to a 'loyalty' scheme, Any suggestions as to where I will get the best flights per point? Airlines seem to differ wildly on where you can actually go for a given 1,000 points, the expression 'mile' seems to be almost meaningless.
I wouldn't mind going back to Medellin with Avianca, which I understand is an airline that lets you fly about the furthest for an Amex point, but I'd really like advice from frequent flyers.

I have only ever exported AmEx Rewards to BA + VS. But I like the flexibility to go to many carriers. That is one of the main reasons I still have an AmEx charge card.

I have an Amex credit card which I use for almost everything (groceries, train travel) which collects points and an Amex Blue card which is a charge card (for emergencies) which doesn't. I don't spend enough to justify a charge card that earns points, as they all now come with high fees which neutralise most of the value I get through points. When I'm flying long-haul it has to be the Avios card as this has a huge credit limit (more than all my pensions, annually, put together) whereas my Amex credit limit is quite modest.

The AmEx BA Premium Plus card was devalued significantly last year. When BA hobbled their club scheme, they caused the number of miles to be collected to generate a 2-4-1 voucher to go up by 50%. Simultaneously, the annual fee also went up. Coupled with the great difficulty in finding seats when you want them. It indicates that BA only want cash purchasers, those with miles have to spend a lot more now.

Just managed to get 2 Business Class to Joeburg for £998 using points and the companion voucher on BA so you can get them you just need to be flexible with where you want to go and when.
Cheers

Yes, earlier this year I got 2 business flights with a companion voucher for the same amount to Chennai. I did book a year in advance though. I imagine that popular routes will be harder to get, so do book early.

I agree Saintsman. The popular routes vanish the moment they arrive on the system. You have to book the outbound immediately and then wait for the return dates. In the past, I have set out to book on the day that I wanted was releaed but it was the afternoon and they had gone.
