I see that the thread about the ATR72 crash has vanished. I wanted to see which 3 kind people had 'liked' me for my comment in that thread, but as far as I can tell it hasn't been moved to a more appropriate forum, but has vanished as mysteriously as MH370. Does that happen if a moderator decides that a thread has nothing further to offer?

There is a thread in the accidents section which BonnieLass posted in and was told off from, as she's SLF not professional pilot. Her comments there have subsequently been deleted, though not replies to her comments. Before that happened, she started a thread here, which seems to have vanished entirely. I think as magyar_flier says, a moderator has 'outright deleted' it. So I 'll never know who they kind people were who 'liked' me.

The mods try and stop duplicate threads otherwise the place would be overrun. IIRC Bonnie Lass kept posting about weight & balance issues caused by a single passenger after everyone had pointed out she/he was barking up the wrong tree. I doubt it was because she's not a professional pilot - lots of non-pros post there regularly - she just wouldn't take no for an answer.

I had been trying to insert valid information about issues with the aircraft the day before the accident flight....which included a non functioning aircon system and issues relating to the weight of baggage the day before not matching what the terminal scales had indicated (hence the aircraft had been offloaded of baggage, reweighed and reloaded correctly and causing a delay in departure as a result), and on the accident flight itself a pax had messaged her mother to say that seats near her were broken and that there had been, in her words, "chaos" on the aircraft. Also on the accident flight there was a non manifested pax that when the initial reports of the accident went into the media the airline stated 61 onboard then changed that to 62 the following day.
I therefore asked, as someone who gets stuffed into the rear of an airliner, the following questions
Would there be a repeat of the weight issue if the airport terminal scales at check in had not been calibrated for the baggage (given the day before those same scales were inaccurate)
Would there be an issue of the extra pax...later identified as a middle aged man...plus his bags (gien the previous day's issues at the terminal above)
Would the aircon issue (as reported by many pax the day before) indicate a mechanical issue thus making the aircraft unfit to have flown on the accident day since was not enough time tween the last flight the day before and the accident flight to get it repaired
When you have broken seating reported on the accident flight, aside from the aircon failure, would/should that also have made the aircraft unfit to fly, would the pilot be able to refuse to fly it or are pilots pressured to fly regardless of condition of the plane
My genuine enquiries were basically ignored or belittled, thus the new thread in the SLF section cos I really did want to find out if the fact the aircraft had so many issues the day before, if it would have even the slightest bearing on what happened on the day of the accident. It was only after the new thread opened that I actually received decent responses on the accident thread, which when a response was made I made a point of thanking that qualified person for their time in answering in the thoughtful way, eventually there were many responses for me to reply to, each going over the potential of the aircon, weight and seating issues, and in order that the kind person who responded was properly thanked I quoted their post, hence things got repeated a bit. That is still no need for others in the thread and elsewhere to become pedantic or frankly rude.
I felt like those in the cockpit can sometimes forget what it is like to be an unqualified pax and that there is no such thing as a stupid question.

I do miss going on my holidays...always turned up at the airport at least 4 or 5 hours early cos I enjoyed just watching the aircraft and all the rest of the airport activity. Had some great experiences...and some not so great, such as being left on the aircraft having been forgotten that I required assistance - Munich is especially bad for that but then perhaps it was due to the building works being done.
I have been very lucky in that I have been able to visit so many wonderful places around the world by air and by ship.
That is all over now. Since a stroke and becoming housebound, all I can do is watch FR24 and come on here to keep intouch with my favourite pastime.
When I left school all those years ago I desperately wanted to join the RAF and get up to my armpits in engines. I even passed all the entry exams and medical....but then my hopes were dashed by my mother who refused to sign the paperwork (working on engines was not, according to her, a job for a lady). I went into construction (towercranes) and then truck driving instead, she was not amused.
I have always had an avid interest in aviation...spent every weekend at Cranfield tween 1977 and 1983, end up helping in the flying school (Rogers) and occasionally in the hangars or helping as observer on post maintenace airtests.
My typing ability is a tad rough now and very slow so on occasions there is overlap and sometimes I don't always respond quickly enough, so then I get frustrated....brain no longer speaks to fingers very well. I ask questions out of genuine curiosity, not to be annoying or to be difficult...sometimes that curiosity is met with consternation, sometimes it is ignored....but it is genuine curiosity and nothing to be angry at me over.
I live in a sheltered accommodation flat under the flightpath to Humberside airport, it is the closest I get thesedays to anything that flies.
I sorely miss the ability to fly....being on here is the next best thing....it is how I can learn things as a mere pax...of former pax. So sorry if that offends, it isn't intentional...I just like to ask questions and exercise my curiosity and where better to do that than getting information from places like this site. But I guess a mere pax like me is seen as a nuisance that doesn't belong here which is a shame

So I guess what used to be welcoming is no longer so.
So sorry for being an unqualified former pax who just wants to find new things out and maybe "fit in" somewhere that I enjoy....that being aviation.
I'll not trouble anyone here anymore so you can all stop ignoring me now.
Sorry that I offended you all so much.
