Boarding By Group Number
Flying LHR - MAN yesterday and, as seems common these days, the gate staff were calling people to board by group number. I was in group 8 (having been in three other groups on other sectors over the return booking) and could not figure out any logic to the way I was allocated to that group.
I presume there must a logical process to group allocation; does anyone know what it is?

That's very helpful, thanks! I got so used to being a silver card holder that I never noticed it until I dropped down the tiers during Covid. Essentially, then, groups 4 to 9 are randomly allocated.
I was in F for the LHR-JNB flight in May, and to be honest, group 1 for boarding was hardly any different to the other groups; it was just a large crowd, milling around. I'm sure we were called together with group 2, so didn't really see the point. It didn't particularly bother me as I knew I had more than enough space onboard for my cabin bag, but I did wonder what the advantage is to priority boarding from LHR with BA?
