Arrival into Munich

I note that travelling from certain countries with a Variant of Concern endemic there, that MUC airport requires "PCR testing on arrival". Try as I may I cannot find any official information on this.

For instance, what test do they do? Is it a fast PCR (+ - two hours for a result) or a regular PCR? Or a 20 minute antigen test? Do you have to wait at the airport until the test result is given or can you continue your travel and get the result by SMS?? As my flight gets into MUC late evening if I have to spend four to eight hours at the airport waiting for a result then I need to arrange a night taxi to my destination.

Arriving into FRA I note that there is no test on arrival from my country, and I have spoken with several people who have done this and taken the ICE to MUC with no testing requirements. Different Lander, different rules.

Anyone travelled through MUC recently from a Country of Concern?

Many thanks

I work out of Munich and UK and obviously frequently fly through there with LH. However I am unfortunately laid up in UK post operation currently so have not been through there since this new COVID virus type emerged. I will contact some colleagues on Monday to see if I can get you a current update, and get back to you. Where are you travelling from ?

Thanks Mr Mac, sorry for the late reply.

It was as rumoured, testing on arrival and three hours sitting behind a police lines type tape waiting for the result. Not much fun at 8.00pm after an 11 hour flight.

The Gesundheitsampt have found around 50 positives in the last week so it maybe was a good idea from a public health point of view but a PITA for travellers. FRA still does not test on arrival, but within another week or so Germany should have as many cases of Omicron as South Africa so the process becomes moot.

So it goes
