Electronic Bag Tags

I see that BA is now pushing these strongly. They have a lot of use for countries where there is a large domestic market, such as USA, Canada and Australia but I wonder how much benefit they can give to BA pax. The reason I question this is how many destinations will have the right equipment to read the tags automatically, or how long it will take them to gear up. In a single country, the roll out would be fairly easy and predictable.

Does the Cabin have any experience of these tags? At their price I am presuming frequent flyers only.

Smoke and mirrors? Making pax responsible for tracking their own baggage? How many road warriors do you know that actually check bags any more?

Every better tag gets stolen anyway.

Stolen? So the tags can be re-assigned to another person? If so, then BA's software infrastructure is even worse than I thought!
